The natural beauty of Maranhao
Situated on
the east coast of Maranhão, the Maranhenses fill the eyes of tourists. The Polo
Park of Lençóis is located in the municipalities of Humberto de Campos, First
Cross, Santo Amaro and Barreirinhas; latter is the main gateway to this
fantastic landscape.
The park
was created in June 1981 and its area corresponds to 155 000 hectares, of which
90,000 are constituted of dunes. The Lagoa Bonita is the main tourist
attraction of the National Park. To know it is necessary to cross the river sloths
by ferry and follow a trail jeep sand for two hours. Then you have to climb a
dune 40 meters to reach the lagoon.
The other
highlights are: Blue Lagoon, Blue Lagoon, Bonita; Pond of Hope; Gull Pond;
Queimada of Britos / Baixa Grande, which is accessed only by hiking, besides
Atins and Foz do Rio Negro.
